It's a Girl!

I am helping put together a shower for the daughter of a friend of mine. I get to do the the decorations for the table, yeah! She is having a girl and we decided to go with a hot pink and green color scheme instead of traditional pastels. Bright colors fit well with the mother's vibrant personality.

I started by going through my stash of things to come up with some ideas to play with and came up with a beautiful bright green Pashmina scarf that will anchor the display and be a perfect base to build from. Silver looks great with pink and green so I pulled out some silver and pewter pieces and came up with a creative cupcake stand made from a bowl with a round piece of glass on top.

Instead of a traditional floral display where the flowers are formally arranged, I used a galvanized bucket and clumped groups of flowers and sticks together to create a more informal look. My friend had a darling rocking horse and some silk flowers she let me borrow to complete the display.

I love to get creative and pull together a great look for a party with things I already have. If you need a few extra touches, chances are that you have a friend that has the perfect piece to round out the look. I will post more pictures later of the actual shower so you can see how the table came together. Today I am joining Cindy's Show and Tell Friday at My Romantic Home.

Hydrangea Love

If you are looking for a showstopper flower for a party or wedding, look no further than the beautiful hydrangea. Hydrangeas have become one of my all time favorites. Not only do they look pretty mixed with other types of flowers but they make a gorgeous arrangement all on their own. They also look pretty when dried. I have used them in centerpieces at parties and weddings, as a cake topper and even as a wedding bouquet.

Here is a wedding cupcake dressed in one of the lace wrappers I make. It looks so pretty with the hydrangea.

I love how hydrangeas can really make a statement! This pretty iron stand is one of 4 and is one of the items I rent for weddings.

I have several hydrangea varieties planted in my yard. but my favorite is the Annabelle. Hydrangeas thrive in shade to partial sun and they like to be watered frequently.

Annabelle seems to be very happy in this spot and she makes me happy too!

Show and Tell Friday

Today I am joining Cindy's Show and Tell Friday at My Romantic Home. This is one of my favorite things. It is a vintage sugar shaker and was a gift from my mom. She found two of them exactly alike, kept one for herself and gave the other one to me. I used it every day to put sugar on my cereal. Then one day it met a tragic demise. My son was unloading the dishwasher for me and it fell out of the cabinet and broke. I really couldn't be mad at him because he was helping without me having to ask. My mother knew how much I loved it and gave me hers. She said it was just sitting in her cabinet but I am not sure I believe that.

I have collected other sugar shakers but this is my favorite. Thanks mom.
Enjoy the weekend,

First Raspberries and Cheesecake

The first raspberries of the season are finally here! It looks like we will have a bumper crop this year. Our bushes are the Heritage variety and we planted them in 2001 so they are well established now. They made a beautiful topping for the last piece of Vanilla Bean Cheesecake. On a recent visit to The Cheesecake Factory I tried their Vanilla Bean Cheesecake, it was so delicious that I came home and found a recipe that is supposed to mimic theirs on Recipe Goldmines site. My family gave it rave reviews even though I didn't top it off with with vanilla mousse and whipped cream like Cheesecake Factory does. The raspberries look pretty and have fewer calories!

I love the look of dessert on the black and white Royal Stafford dishes. The sterling silver baby fork is one I found recently on a thrifting excursion.
Enjoy the fruits of the season.

Centerpiece fun

One thing I've discovered about myself is that I am not one of those people who can decorate a room, leave it that way for 20 years and be content. I seem to get bored easily and have found changing things up with acessories can give a room a new fresh look without having to go out and buy all new things. I like the challenge of creating something new with things I already have. This is a centerpiece I came up with using only things from around the house.

/>This darling bird bowl was a birthday gift from my son and his wife. I love cute birds.

Ok girls, I challenge you to create! Jodie

A Mid Summer's Dream

We were blessed with an absolutely gorgeous day for the show. We couldn't have asked for better. It was great to spend the day with so many talented and creative people. It's funny how other people can inspire your own creativity! Ever since the show I have been dreaming up new ideas and there hardly seems to be enough time in the day to explore them all. Tina and I met yesterday, she was helping me figure out how to put together my blog and we were cooking up some fun things to do over at the farmhouse so stay tuned!

Tuesday, June 22, 2010

Thursday promises to be an exciting day. My sister-in-law, Tina, will be hosting a big event at her farmhouse, 12070 S. Iowa St., Olathe. There will be some fabulous vendors there and the house is for sale as well. I got a sneak preview today and saw many things I would love to have!
I will be joining in with a display for my new venture, Party Whimsy. I have been putting together themed parties for children that are delivered right to your door. The Jungle Adventure party will be featured and comes with everything you need to host your own party. All the table decor, place settings, games, favors, photo prop and more.
I will also have unique wedding items on display that are available for rent.
It is an exciting time for me! Tina will be helping me put together my blog in the coming weeks so that everyone will be able to view information about my parties. I am very creative but sometimes computer challenged.
Hope to see you there!
